Middle school student shows a bench they completed.Middle School
For students ages 12-14 years.

Campbell's Middle School follows the model forged by experienced AMI Montessori practitioners. Procedures used in the class are dictated by the characteristics of the adolescent. Subject areas are integrated with projects suggested by the interests of the students. Much of the work is "hands-on" and usually involves extensive planning with writing, mathematics, interviews, and work with the basics needed before it can be completed.. These projects often result in concrete results, such as the benches built by our 2010-2011 class.

The program
The Montessori curriculum for middle school takes into account the subjects taught in traditional schools. In keeping with the adolescent need for self-expression, discussion and creative work are part of the day. The students write for a variety of practical purposes including creative work, analysis of literary pieces, explanation of procedures used to complete a project, and keeping a record of work completed.

Evaluation
Rather than be given grades, the students are encouraged to develop the skills necessary for self-evaluation. In order to share the work they have accomplished with parents, Presentations of Learning are scheduled regularly during which each student speaks to the assembled group of parents and presents what they have learned using a multimedia approach. Conferences are also held with the parent, student and teacher twice yearly.
