Why Montessori Elementary?

If you are curious about Montessori and want to learn how our program can benefit your child, call for an appointment to tour our school.

The Montessori Elementary classroom offers a natural continuation to the work already started in the primary class.  

The child can continue in a learning environment where:

• each child is respected and respectful
• each child is loved and admired for his own individual characteristics
  
• an atmosphere of joyful learning is maintained
• discipline springs principally from the child being involved in fulfilling, worthwhile and valuable work
• the child is responsible for his own actions
• the development of initiative and the path of resolution to ones' problems is admired and encouraged (within the bounds of safety)
• the child works at his own pace and not in an atmosphere of coercion or competition
  

Montessori offers the child an education for life, but what will be the life tasks of our present pre-schoolers?  Thinkers are suggesting that future man will primarily perform intellectual and creative tasks.  He will need the ability to look at problems from new directions, to spot new relationships quickly, to make critical judgments, to make rapid adjustments to change, to keep alive his curiosity and awareness, to communicate effectively with others, to be self-reliant and self-confident.  Because of the manner in which the curriculum is presented, the kinds of materials in the Montessori classroom and the order in which they are shown to the child, and the awareness of and attendance to his developmental needs, we believe that these inner capabilities will be fostered in the child and that he should be able to deal constructively with whatever conditions he will face in the changing future.
